Ratings, transitions, and currency. Built around your goals.

Ratings

From your first flight to flight instructor, one-on-one training built around your goals and schedule. I've held every rating on this list and know exactly what each checkride demands.

Rating Paths

  • Private Pilot (PPL)
  • Instrument Rating (IFR)
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate (CPL)
  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
  • CFI – Instrument (CFII)

Transition Training

Specializing in Cessna 182 transitions. Whether you're stepping up from a 172 or checking out in a high-performance aircraft, I'll get you truly comfortable with the systems, performance, and emergency procedures.

What's Covered

  • Aircraft systems and performance planning
  • Normal, crosswind, and short-field ops
  • Engine-out and emergency procedures
  • High-performance & complex endorsements

IPCs / BFRs

Skills fade, and currency requirements exist for a reason. I treat IPCs and BFRs as real training, not a rubber stamp. You'll walk away sharper than when you arrived.

What's Covered

  • Regulatory review and aeronautical knowledge
  • Maneuvers, procedures, and emergency ops
  • IPC: approaches, holds, partial panel
  • BFR: tailored to your actual flying

Ferry Pilot

Need an aircraft moved? I've logged time across a wide range of aircraft types and flying environments, from tailwheels and glider towing to high-performance singles. That variety makes for a versatile, adaptable ferry pilot.

Experience Includes

  • Tailwheel aircraft & endorsement
  • Glider towing operations
  • Cessna 210 (retract, high-performance)
  • Mooney — speed and efficiency
  • Piper PA-28-235 Cherokee Pathfinder
  • Crop dusters & specialty ag aircraft
  • Long cross-country & ferry experience

FAQs

Do I need any prior experience to start?
Nope. If you're starting from scratch, we'll begin with a discovery flight and go from there. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to show up.
How long does it take to get a private pilot license?
Most students reach checkride-ready in 4–12 months flying 2–3 times per week. The FAA minimum is 40 hours, but real-world averages are closer to 55–65 hours. We'll set a realistic timeline together based on your schedule.
What aircraft will I train in?
For transition training I use my own 1974 Cessna 182 Skylane. For ratings training, aircraft options depend on your location and goals — reach out and we'll figure out the best fit.
Why choose an independent CFI over a flight school?
You get one instructor who knows your progress, your habits, and your goals — start to finish. No handoffs between instructors, no scheduling around a fleet of students. Just focused, consistent instruction built around you.
How do I know if I need an IPC or a BFR?
A BFR is required every 24 calendar months for any certificated pilot to act as PIC. An IPC is required if you want to fly IFR but haven't logged the required instrument approaches and holds within the past 6 months. Not sure which applies? Just ask.
